Having been a fan of tech decks, I really like this. So simple, turning the products into terrain for some groovy moves.

Beauty in Bitmap
I've just started my junior year in the graphic design BFA at BYU, so I've been rather busy as one could imagine. I love typography, but in the weeks just before Fall semester began, I had no classes, or much of anything really and while I did not stop loving type I feel like there was a drought. Its like when you haven't eaten in a while you don't realize how hungry you are until you smell sunday dinner, and then you can't stop stuffing you face.
Well, being back to school is awesome! I have a feeling this semester is going to be Hell as far as work load goes, but I'm looking forward to it. So, to express my renewed exuberance with type I'm posting this spectacular video that is here on Fontshop's Fontfeed.

FontShop And Jürgen Siebert
I had a packaging design class this summer, in which the teacher really enjoyed to though around big names. He said it wasn't to show off but so that we would go look the people up and be familiar with who they were and what work they did.
I found this article celebrating Jürgen Siebert's 20th year with FontShop and talk about throwing names around, as well as cool events and history, etc. In the article are a ton of links to some pretty sweet names and stuff. It's definitely worth taking a look at. http://fontfeed.com/archives/

A Good Fit
As an airplane interiors engineer for Boeing and with a master's degree in whole-systems design, Steve Sauer, did phenomenal work in his 182 square foot Seattle apartment. I really like his thinking too. He doesn't like wasted space or useless repeats of the same product. To read the article: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/

Nicklas Rudfell
I can't remember how I stumbled upon this photographer's, Nicklas Rudfell, work. I enjoy his portfolio but his gastronomic photography is quite a treat. Obviously, I had a hard time narrowing it down to only a couple so I put more. They are beautifully stunning in color and composition both, using contrast, line, shape, etc. What an inspiration. Explorations
These are just a few type experiments that I've worked on at work. Already knowing how conservative (or rather boring and closed-minded) they are I didn't put tons of effort, but I thought they turned out nice.
Needless to say, they were rejected.

What We Can Learn From Babies
In the Fall Semester 2009, I had a visual arts seminar class. At first I was skeptical that it would be of any actual or practical use. Much to my surprise and pleasure, it turned out to be a very inspiring and motivational catalyst.
One day, we discussed how play and using our imaginations are essential to creativity. It was said that children sometimes produce very fresh and new art because they play so much and are not inhibited by embarrassment, fear, nervousness or anything.
I found this article today talking about something similar and for any creative, this is WAY helpful.

50 Style Thoughts
I found this site a couple of months ago. It's a company that is all about male cosmetics and grooming: Shaving, skin care, hair care. Its a pretty handy site and the packaging is very well done, clean, simple and sophisticated. I love it. Not to mention it has these 50 tips that are useful for any man aspiring to be like Shawn Connery or the like.
Here are a few of the tips but to view the rest go here: www.baxterofcalifornia.com
Take a gander through the web site. It's some pretty cool and handy stuff.
50 Style Thoughts
3. Black shoes black belt; brown shoes brown belt
7. Style is often nothing more than attitude;
11. Invest in good well-made leather dress shoes, and take care of them; use shoe trees and clean, wax and polish them regularly and they'll easily last you a lifetime;
14. Try to never buy anything at full price; everything eventually will go on sale;

Quotes On Design
My coworker showed me this cool website with lots of quotes about design and a few others. It's mainly just a way to pass the time. My favorite for the day: “Remember to always be yourself. Unless you suck.” –Joss Whedon

Rolling Roadshow
For the 2010 Rolling Roadshow Tour: Free screenings of famous movies in famous places has some pretty cool movie posters. Not your typical lens flare, scantly clad women and photoshop breasts type posters. Rather, the simple yet very iconic type posters. This one is probably my favorite. Go to trailers.apple.com

Simplaform
I stumbled upon this cool website that designs custom furniture. Its a modern type furniture, very cool and well designed. Simple yet classy. I dig. www.simplaform.com

TEUXDEUX
I found this cool little "To Do" list. Its, "a simple, designy, free, browser-based to-do app." Its really easy to use, looks nice and can be accessed from any computer if you don't have your own. Also, I believe I read about iPhone apps and such. Its definitely worth a look. teuxdeux.com

Holga.D
I've always wanted to try out a Holga camera, they're pretty basic and super cheap, at least last I checked. They shoot really interesting and stylized photos which is where the appeal lies really. I recently found this guy who did a little concept for the Holga. D which is really simple yet beautiful product design. Here are just a couple of shots.
Anyways, he has some other pretty cool ideas but I think I like this one the best. To check out more of his work visit: www.saikatbiswas.com

New Beginnings
So I guess blogging is the hot new thing to do. Since I was in Mexico while it got all big and for the last year I've been busy getting into the graphic design program at BYU, I really have taken time for it. I got in and now I'm taking it easy for the summer. Anyways, who knows if I'll be able to keep this up once the semester starts but I thought I might take a crack at it.
